As a young child, Dr. Der Bing dreamed of helping people. However, he was a shy individual who experienced difficulties pursuing this dream. Ohlone College was one of his initial influences that helped him gain leadership skills to continue forward with his life aspiration. Beyond the academic support, Clifton states, “…numerous instructors provided me with the training and mentorship to become a more confident person. Ohlone College was an EMPOWERING experience for me.”
Clifton’s best memories from his Ohlone days are serving many years on the Associated Students of Ohlone College (eventually as President and a Board of Trustee), establishing supportive relationships with numerous instructors and administrators, and being honored as class Valedictorian and receiving the Leadership Award. He remembers, “…several Ohlone College staff members going above-and-beyond their normal roles, as they provided academic mentoring and assisted me with hosting many campus-wide social events. To this day, I often reflect upon these remarkable Ohlone College inspirations that helped guide me to my current life achievements.”
After Ohlone College, Clifton earned a B.A. in Psychology at CSU East Bay (Hayward) and then transferred to the California School of Professional Psychology (at Alliant International University, San Francisco) to earn a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Afterward, he also became a certified Yoga Instructor to add to his passion for wellness.
Dr. Der Bing is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and recently opened a private psychology practice, Wellness Ways, in San Jose. Wellness Ways is a Bay Area-based psychology practice “that focuses on helping people chart their particular and individual path to feeling well and whole.”
