2005 Valedictorian: Viridiana Loza

Viridiana Loza originally started attending UC Berkeley as a freshman, but took some time off and went to Ohlone College to reduce the costs of her education, as she was self-funding her educational costs.  After graduating from Ohlone, she was re-admitted to UC Berkeley and finished up her degree in Political Economy of Industrial Societies.

Viridiana found Ohlone College to be a welcoming community of staff and students.  Some highlights of her time at Ohlone include getting involved in extracurricular, performing at Slam Poetry Night, traveling throughout the Bay Area with fellow students to see plays for Theatre Appreciation class, and ultimately giving her Valedictorian speech at graduation.

After graduating from UC Berkeley in 2007, Viridiana has been working in the fashion industry.  She started her career working for Macy’s at the regional buying office in San Francisco, and then moved to New York City, where she lived for seven years.  For the last four years she has been working as a Buyer for Gilt Groupe, an online flash-sale website.

Both of Viridiana’s siblings also attended Ohlone College, in addition to countless other family members and friends.
