Rebecca lived in Santa Cruz and wanted to become a Physical Therapist Assistant. Ohlone was the closest college to Santa Cruz offering the program.
During her time at Ohlone, Rebecca says she “enjoyed the camaraderie among (her) classmates in the Physical Therapist Assistant program.” She gained confidence with public speaking from the many oral reports that were a part of the curriculum. She also had three unique internship experiences that helped prepare her for a career in the Physical Therapy field.
Rebecca states, “One of my favorite memories involved learning wheelies during my internship at a spinal cord injury rehab center.” She also enjoyed an observation at a daycare with a high ratio of children on the autistic spectrum, and field trips to a prosthetic and orthopedic factory and a water aerobics class.
“I enjoyed testing the modalities during the modalities class,” says Rebecca, “and the good spirited competition with fellow classmates during the sports testing class.”
Rebecca has continued her professional by taking, “wonderful continuing education courses that enhance (her) skills as a Physical Therapist Assistant.” Her favorite so far was a course in the Jones Strain-Counterstrain technique.
Since graduating from Ohlone, Rebecca had had the opportunity to work in both inpatient and outpatient Physical Therapy settings. She is now working as a Physical Therapist Assistant at an outpatient clinic in Hollister.
Also since leaving Ohlone, Rebecca got married and now has “two amazing children.” Her lab partner from the PTA program was a bridesmaid at her wedding.
