Schultz, Dr. Joanne: Dean of Financial Services

Joanne Schultz was professionally associated with Ohlone College as an outside auditor several years before being employed as a full-time employee.  Joanne was a CPA / Auditor with the firm of Armanino, Jones and Lombardi (AJL) assigned to Ohlone for auditing work.  She left that that firm to start her own private accounting and auditing firm.  ALJ was still providing auditing services to the district but when a special project came up requiring a more operational assignment, they recommended Joanne for the work.  After a short period, the position of Director of Financial Services became open and Joanne applied and was selected for the job in September 1996.  In December 2012, she left Ohlone to become Vice President of Administrative Services at Community College District, after 16 years of dedicated and accomplished service to the district as an employee, and over 20 years considering her auditing assignments.

With her strong accounting and auditing background Joanne worked diligently to institute vital financial controls to manage district revenues and expenditures.  She created a consistent and inclusive budget planning process and facilitated regular communication on the budget with the Board and the college community.

Joanne assisted with the implementation of the Datatel Colleague management information system, including transition from the legacy Santa Rosa system.  She was an important partner in working to link budget planning and enrollment planning.  She established an outcome-based approach to program review and assessment and actively involved her staff in the process.

Joanne was a key player in the financial planning involved with the Measure A and Measure G bond measures and the implementation of the projects under each of them.  She was a staunch advocate for environmental sustainability and encouraged and assisted the district in planning and implementing energy generation strategies, including the funding for a solar farm on the Fremont Campus.

Joanne was a true lifelong learner.  She was an active member of the Ohlone Chamber Singers.  While working at Ohlone, she completed her doctoral program in education through Alliant International University.
