Linda (Montalvo) Dickerman worked in the library from 1969 until her retirement as a Learning Resources Specialist in 2009. In 1967 Linda was a student at Ohlone College and she worked as a student assistant in the library under the library’s first director, Ward Blanchard. She was part of the library when it was in the Serra Campus on Washington Boulevard in Fremont and was an integral part of the transition to permanent space in Building One when the campus was built in 1974. Hans Larsen was hired as Library Director in 1972. When he became Assistant Dean, he was given oversight for the English and Speech Departments. Linda remembers her years as Department Secretary for English and Speech with great fondness.
Linda had many important responsibilities in the library including maintaining the card catalog, acquisitions, budgets, and scheduling. Her responsibilities changed right along with the rapid changes to library and information technology. She had friends across the campus and, as an employee from the early days of the college, provided much needed historical memory and perspective. Linda really was the heart and soul of the library and her contributions to Ohlone College over the years are incalculable.
In the early 2000s, Linda was a member of the band The Ukulele Renegades along with KG Greenstein, Hal Griffin, and Kathy Sparling. The Renegades had many secret practice locations on campus including the fourth floor of Building One. She played a mean National resonator ukulele.
